SUMMARY As in subject (also with combination with mouse). This mode is commonly used in Windows editors. For example in Notepad++, but also in advanced programming environments like Microsoft SQL Management Studio, maybe also in other. In my opinion it is very useful and more comfortable to use than this one uses in KDE editors - switchable and achievable by combination of Ctrl+Shift+B. Just notice please that in KDE editors I need to do more activities to reach and back from this mode. Please consider this as wish request. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS KDE Plasma Version: 5.19.2 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.71 Qt Version: 5.15.0
Note that block mode also has implications for typing and pasting, not just selecting.
I'm aware how it works. Constantly I use it working with Notepad++ in my regular work. And I think this one in KTextEditor is less comfortable and less safe. In my opinion switching mode implemented in KTextEditor is more leading to accidental mistakes in editing, just because user can forget that this mode is turned on. He needs look to status bar to be sure that this mode is turned on/off. Just compare this to block mode working only when keys shortcut combination is hold on. And after release this combination user back to normal selection mode. Switching mode implemented in KTextEditor needs more activities from user - he needs to press proper keys combination twice.
