Description m.eik michalke 2020-07-02 15:08:14 UTC
SUMMARY

when i'm composing new mails on the command line including the '--identity' option, it looks like the identity was successfully selected when sending. however, sent mails are still being stored in the sent mails folder defined with the default identity, not in the folder the selected identity should use.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. generate a mail with 'kmail --identity ...', selecting a non-default identity
2. send the mail
3. examine the sent mails folders of the chosen identity and the default identity

OBSERVED RESULT

mails reliably end up in the default sent mail folder.

EXPECTED RESULT

sent mails should be archived in the respective folder of the chosen identity.

kmail 5.7.3 is too old.
It seems to work here (kmail 5.15.1)
Please test with new version and reopen it
Thanks

i can confirm the problem is also solved in kmail 5.13.3.

i do agree that 5.7.3 is pretty old. however, users of widely used distros like kubuntu 18.04 LTS will continue to run KDE plasma 5.12 LTS and older versions of kontact for some more years, so it is probably still worth backporting the patch.

that is because storing outgoing mail on a wrong IMAP server can quickly become a serious privacy issue (GDPR), especially if it happens unnoticed.

If a distribution chooses to make LTS release with software lagging behind what upstream officially supports, backporting patches is a package maintainer duty.

Now that you confirmed the issue is fixed, please open a bug report for your distribution to backport fixes (if possible).
