Description Nishant Kumar 2020-06-27 00:16:25 UTC
SUMMARY
Elisa is not finding new songs added to my ~/Music folder. Today I added two mp3 songs in my ~/Music folder, then opened the Elisa to play it, but they were not found, so I refreshed the Music Collection. Even after that, the Songs were not found. First I thought I might be using the wrong file type but Cantata found the music immediately.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add the Song to ~/Music folder
2. Open Elisa
3. Refresh Music Collection

OBSERVED RESULT
New songs were not shown in Tracks

EXPECTED RESULT
Songs should be present in tracks and playable

(available in About System)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 Nishant Kumar 2020-06-28 02:46:16 UTC
It seems I was a bit hasty, those songs are now added to Elisa, but it does not start playing them automatically like it does for other songs.
Comment 2 Nate Graham 2020-07-02 00:34:59 UTC
Can you clarify what you mean by "it does not start playing them automatically"? In what way would you expect newly-added songs to get played automatically?
Comment 3 Nishant Kumar 2020-07-02 08:55:20 UTC
I have set the preference in the Elisa setting that resume playback from last session. Previously the songs which I had in the Music folder before installing Elisa were playing automatically. But after adding two new songs, only those songs are not resuming when restarting Elisa
Comment 4 Nishant Kumar 2020-07-02 08:57:08 UTC
I was thinking this might be the issue with the songs itself, so I tried using Cantata and Audacious (as I only want QT or KDE apps for as many task as possible) and they were flawlessly
Comment 5 Nate Graham 2020-07-02 23:55:58 UTC
Elisa uses a playlist to determine what to play. If you add new songs to your music folder but don't somehow manually add them to the played , they won't be played.

Comment 6 Nishant Kumar 2020-07-03 12:26:33 UTC
Sorry to bother you but I have added them to the playlist, but when I exit Elisa and restart it, they don't play even though they are present in the playlist. Even if I click on play it doesnot respond. Afterwards if I delete them from playlist and re-add them they start playing again. If you need more information, please feel free to ask
Comment 7 Nate Graham 2020-07-03 13:15:55 UTC
I'm having trouble following. Could you attach a screen recording that shows the problem? If a picture is worth a thousand words, a stream of pictures must be worth millions of words. :)

add the song again

So I added the song again and now it works. But if I quit Elisa it will show the same behavior as described
Comment 13 Nishant Kumar 2020-07-03 13:56:40 UTC
It is showing this particular behavior only with these two new songs. I checked if the file type or Bitrate or Sample rate is different from other songs, but it appears everything is the same. I am also attaching the screenshot of non-working and working song information

My Music folder

I am sorry if it sounds confusing, but I just noticed that if the songs are not in the separate folder in Music directory are showing this weird behavior but if I put them into a folder inside the Music directory they are behaving normally.

For example, in the image, you can see on the right all the songs not in another folder are misbehaving
Comment 15 Nate Graham 2020-11-11 18:04:33 UTC
Is there any chance you could attach those two song files so we can inspect them and try to reproduce the issue with them?

Problem song

I am sorry for the late reply. Here is the song requested. I have made a copy and sending one to you. I have changed some metadata (Name, Title, Genre, Artist) of the other copy and that is working fine.
