It` s a Wacom Cintic 16, not 15! Very basic tablet.

My laptop has an 8GB Cache

Hm... Are you sure this only happens with the watercolor presets? Any particular preset specfically? Does it always happen with those presets? It looks like generic memory corruption...
Comment 3 herman 2020-06-22 15:07:35 UTC
Okay, I`ll try now, write you back soon.

Okay, Boudewijn, now i tried different brushes, ordinary ones like
pencil, ordinary paint-brushes and so on, everything`s fine.

Than i tried again with watercolour-brushes. Most of them work totally
fine, but the ones which don`t (at least on my system) are:

J) Water C Spread (here i used 500px "thikness" of the brushstroke.
During (fast)stroking squares appear and disturb my concentration for
the lining.

Than i changed and used:

J) Water C Spread  Wide Area  and it really got worse... (used a
standard thickness of 200px here)

For me it look like that "there was too much information coming into the
chache during stroking".

Helpful for you?

Herman

Hi, Herman!

Does the rectangle disappear if you toggle visibility of the layer off and on?

And does it disappear if you save the document and open it again?

Hi Dmitry,
thank you for asking.
The squares appear only during the moving of the pen. Looks like the RAM is only with these two mentioned brushes " overloaded" and can't cope with the amount of pixel-information.
The squares appear shortly in some other watercolour-brushes as well, but with these two brushes, they appear and than stay on the painting.
I'm sorry, but i can't explain it in other words. Have a very little knowledge of basic computerstuff.
I didn't switch any visibility on or off.
Pls. excuse me, if i don't answer immediatly. Being a family-man, i don't have always the time to check emails or using my tablet.
Thank you vor your help!
Herman

Sorry, Dmitry, was very tired last night. New try: Does the rectangle
disappear if you toggle visibility of the layer off and on?

/Okay, just tried it.////1. Did one brush-stroke (slowly) .Maybe one or two squares appeared
shortly and than vanished.//////than////2. did a fast stroke. ////Square`s appeared (around 6, 7 - 8), squares appeared and STAYED.////Than i switched the VISIBILITY of the layer OFF and ON again and the
squares were gone. ////The brushstroke looked good./
And does it disappear if you save the document and open it again?
///NO /

Helpful?
Comment 10 Halla Rempt 2020-06-24 08:16:31 UTC
Yes, really helpful, thanks!

This certainly points at an issue with the canvas rendering, not the brush engines. Since you're on Windows 10, could you experiment a bit more for us?

* Go to settings->configure krita->display

and

* test with canvas acceleration disabled
* test with canvas acceleration enabled, in Angle mode
* test with canvas acceleration enabled, in OpenGL mode

Could you also attach to this bug report (you'll have to open the bug's url https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423359 and use the And an Attachment link) the contents of Help->System Information for Bug reports?

Hi, Boudewijn, experimented this evening a bit for you, not sure wether
these were the right things to do, you asked for.

F.E. didn`t know, what you meant with "Angle mode" Did you mean changing
the angle of the brush-point(-top)?

Putting in some screenshots and hope they give you a bit of a clue, what
could be wrong.

But, as i mentioned, i am not an IT-specialist.

Therefore i pull my head for all you guys and ladies(!), who are
constantly working around this program, to get Krita better and better.
Okay, whishing you and your team a good time and say "Good night" from here.

too big. Hope, you got at least some screenshots.

Maybe trying again tomorrow.
Good night

Hi, Boudewijn

Here is the rest of the screenshots 2nd & 3rd try.

For me, it looks like it has only to do with the WaterC-brushes, because
all the others work fine, like f.e. airbrush

Bye for now and good luck !

Comment 17 Dmitry Kazakov 2021-01-13 10:40:29 UTC
Hi, Herman!

The bug seems to have split into two threads:

1) The Watercolor fading. As far as I can tell, that is the expected behavior. The more pressure you add to the stroke, the more subtle it becomes. That is something what happens with realworld watercolor paints.

2) Squares appearing on the canvas. I cannot reproduce them. In neither of the three graphical engines: DirectX, openGL, Software. All three work perfectly fine here. It might be a GPU driver issue in the end...

Can you check the latest 4.4.2 Beta2 build and see if the problem still persists? If yes, please tell what GPU you have. You can get this information at Help->System Information for Bugreports dialog.
