SUMMARY This one goes into the wishlist. I would suggest that developers find the courage and determination to redesign the eraser functionality so that we wouldn't necessarily rely on the 10 brushes script to switch between a different paint brush preset from the eraser brush one. I feel like you haven't really engaged into changing this aspect yet. So prayer, for the sake of a better workflow, for all artists including the ones among you, bring the option to assign the "E" shortcut key to a brush preset that is used independently from the paint brush preset. And for the eraser mode, we could use something like "SHIFT + X" shortcut given that X is already used to shift between foreground and background color. I hope you like the idea and want to go for it.
By simple editing of the keyboard shortcuts, you can reassign 'Set eraser mode' to Shift+X and then, after assigning an eraser brush preset to number-n in the ten brushes script, you can reassign its shortcut from Ctrl+Alt+n to the E key. The facility is there, waiting to be used.

I much prefer it in the way I suggested in this wishlist report. Like I said, I don't want to rely on the 10 brush scripts. Think of my suggestion as the need of a second pointer that will only target eraser brush types. Selecting a non-eraser brushes will automatically switch to the paint brush pointer. Which means that, pressing E again will remember the last Eraser brush selected with all its settings as well. This one is better in my opinion.
