Multiple times when playing around with different display setups (connecting/disconnecting monitors, changing the way they're connected) it happened that the panel configurations got messed up. Either the panel is outright gone, or moved to a different monitor. If it's just moved to another monitor it's easy enough to just move it to the desired one. But then there's the case when the panel disappears and the user is forced to make the panel again from scratch. I think the only way around it right now is saving a text file as backup. I think it would be nice if there were ways to save panel setups to use later again. This is also useful when you want to replicate the same or similar panel on other monitors, especially when you modify the height of them and since it's a slider you don't know the exact number.
Seems unlikely. We don't generally add features to work around our own bugs. We should just fix the bugs!
Agreed, but saving and loading panels allows for the duplication of panels, to use in other monitors. Or maybe when trying out a new panel setup, the original panel could be saved and restored later if needed.
Panel duplication is tracked by Bug 412588. I don't think we're going to implement this specific feature, sorry.
