Are you scanning from the automatic document feeder?

or are do you have automatic selections that are scanned?

no, i have a canon pixma 2500, no document feeder. you lift the lid, you
put the material scan in there.
in skanlite, you hit preview, then select the area you want scanned.
now you press scan. you can see it scanning, the scanner and the scan
window dialog.
now the file save dialog comes up, with it's own preview image of the work
it did as proof of concept, in case you want to cancel it and try again.
you hit save, give it a file name, the dialog closes and then you see
scanner go again, and the save file dialog comes up again.
if you don't hit cancel on that 2nd erroneus one, the loop will continue
for ever.

If you do not disable automatic selections, you might get automatic selections (red rectangles).

It would be nice if you could send a screenshot of Skanlite immediately after preview is done.

a video could be nice too :)

This bot is retarded, great way to mask issues. KDE while popular in the
Linux community isn't nearly as popular as other OS's that can justify a 30
day dev/bug cycle, and even at that those big name OS's have a 6 month or
longer cycle. Couple that with this one scanner app and we got an extremely
narrow niche and this bot is killing reports.

The most hilarious part, "resolved | worksforme"? I never marked it as
resolved, and never said the part that I reported is fixed.

Hi,

Sorry you feel the "Needs info" timeout is too short. The bot is there because we often get bug reports that are hard/impossible to reproduce and then the number of bugs grow out of hand. I personally feel the time is a tiny but too short, but it is the global time limit for all projects.

You could also try to scan with some debug enabled:

SANE_DEBUG_PIXMA=16 skanlite

(assuming your scanner uses the pixma backend)

You could also play with the debug level to see if you get info that looks important to solve the problem.

I'm "reopening" (setting to waiting for info). If you get the timeout mail again you can just send a short reply that you are busy at the moment but will come back with more information later.

Thanks, hoping to iron out the issue you have.

The Bug Janitor only checks for status "NEEDSINFO", not for the resolution "WAITINGFORINFO".

to add more info to this: if i open skanlite and don't do the preview it
works, but naturally scans the whole page and the saving thing only happens
once per scan. It is when I do preview so that I can select a smaller area
that the double save dialogue occurs. I'll go ahead make the prescribed
video now. Also what does the 16 in the example addon you mentioned
actually tell it to do?

ok, we can mark this as closed, i'll open another bug report or feature
request.

After paying critical attention to what was happening, i noticed that when
you do preview the skanlite program hilites with a red box what it thinks
it should scan. You can still select your own are for scanning. This is
where the issue actually occurs. If you do not use the minus icon to remove
the red highlighted zones it will save the area you manually select, and
when that dialogue is closed it will then proceed all the red highlighted
areas that you didn't remove.

Therefore what is happening when you preview the scanlite program is saying
I will scan all these red areas after I scan the area you manually select.
This is what caused me to report this as an issue in the first place. I did
not fully understand what was happening but now do as I tried to make a
video that succinctly explained what happened.

Hi,

Thanks for following up. This was what I was afraid of :(

The automatic selections are confusing. I should not have made that feature on by default.
