The Information for Bug reports

I have an issue regarding the Selection Tool. When I select something and - for example - select something else accidentally and use CTRL Z to return to the former selection, the former selection doesn't show up and I can't draw anything. Only when I deselect.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select one of the selection tools
2. Select something on the canvas
3. Select something else on the canvas
4. Undo the new selection with e.g. CTRL Z to return to the former selection.

OBSERVED RESULT
The former selection doesn't return and I cannot draw anything.

EXPECTED RESULT
The former selection should return to draw inside of it.

Hm... I cannot reproduce this on Krita 5/master, maybe something that dmitry has already fixed but hasn't backported due the complexity of the fix. We'll need to try with the beta.

I tested with 4.3.2-beta2 on Windows 10 and on Linux, and I couldn't reproduce it either. Could you please check whether the problem goes away if you reset Krita's settings? See https://docs.krita.org/en/KritaFAQ.html#resetting-krita-configuration

This looks as a duplicated for https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411394

The fix is not in 4.3.0, but it is in 4.3.1

Interesting.
I just found out
that the rectangular selection tool or the circular selection too work fine.
it is the Similar Color Selection Tool and the other one I don't know the name of in english but it has a similar effect as the Similar Color Selection Tool. If you select something with that tool use the rectangular selection tool and undo the selection to return to the Similar Color Selection Tool selection then it won't show up.
Comment 5 Michael 2020-06-02 13:20:10 UTC
Ah ye. Resetting Kritas Configurations did not work.
Comment 6 Michael 2020-06-02 14:19:24 UTC
It has something to do with the Similar Color Seelction Tool. When you use the Similar Color Selection Tool, then, for example, the rectangular selection tool and then undo the rectangle selection with CTRL Z the former selection won't return.
Comment 7 Halla Rempt 2020-06-02 14:41:10 UTC
Ah, I always tested with the circle selection tool.

Hi, Michael!

Could you please check if you can reproduce the bug in the latest package package here?
https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/Krita_Stable_Windows_Build/

It has a fix that should fix your bug :)
Comment 9 Michael 2020-06-02 15:53:43 UTC
Yes. Now the Similar Color Selection Tool as well as the other one which does a similar effect are working. I can now see the former selection and draw inside of it. Thank you all very much.

Thank you for the feedback! I'll close the bug then. The fix will be released in Krita 4.3.1.
