SUMMARY none of the applications using knewstuff are able to access providers via providers.xml STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. R-click desktop, Add widgets..., Get new widgets, Download New Plasma Widgets 2. (sometimes Plasma desktop temporarily disappears) 3. Plasma add-on installer appears, and remains empty, with error: Loading of providers from file: https://download.kde.org/ocs/providers.xml 4. edit /etc/xdg/plasmoids.knsrc > ProvidersUrl=https://autoconfig/ocs/providers.xml 5. Plasma add-on installer appears, and remains empty, with spinning 'Loading provider information' 6. save providers.xml to local folder /etc/xdg 7. edit /etc/xdg/plasmoids.knsrc > ProvidersUrl=file://etc/xdg/providers.xml 8. Plasma add-on installer appears, and remains empty, with spinning 'Loading provider information' OBSERVED RESULT providers information never loads, and new widgets/plasmoids pane is never populated EXPECTED RESULT new widgets/plasmoids pane is populated with an overwhelming array of exciting possibilities SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: OpenSUSE 15.1 (151.1.1) (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.12.8 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.55.0 Qt Version: 5.9.7 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION this behaviour is also observed in other applications that use knewstuff, e.g. wallpapers, 'look and feel', desktop theme, cursor feel; marble _does work_, but ProvidersUrl=http://edu.kde.org/marble/newstuff/providers-4.5.xml
apologies step 4. ProvidersUrl=https://autoconfig.kde.org/ocs/providers.xml
That file loads fine for me. Is there any chance this could have been caused by a network connectivity or proxy issue on your end?
