Freezes when putting clip on timeline

summary: System freezes whenever I try to put something on the timeline. Forces quit.  Software takes a long time to load when started. 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. place clip on timeline
2. 
3. 

OBSERVED RESULT
freezes


EXPECTED RESULT
no freezing.

Software manager in Linux Mint 19.3 has a bad flatpak on the latest 20.4.01 update to Kdenlive that needs to be removed.  It's missing elements and freezes when used.  Downloaded the appimage and made it an executable file in the permissions tab when right clicking icon.
