Description Benjamin Vallin 2020-05-19 21:29:23 UTC
SUMMARY
Ktouch doesn't recognise bépo dead keys ^ and ¨ (to get the characters â, î, û, ô, ï, ä, ë, ü.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Follow the training course with and for French keyboard Dvorak-bepo until module 16 where the dead keys for î, û, â, ô, ï, ä are introduced
2. Start typing...
3. When reaching the 5 character of the word "paraît", type the bépo dead key ^ (located on the Y key of a qwerty keyboard) followed by "i".

OBSERVED RESULT
The character obtained is "i". Rightly considered by Ktouch as a typing error.

EXPECTED RESULT
Should be "î", which is the correct character.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
3,8 Gio
Intel® Core™ i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz × 4
Intel® Sandybridge Desktop
GNOME 3.28.2
64 bits

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Because one can't finish this training module, one can't reach the following ones either: not possible to complete the full bépo training.
It seems also that Ktouch doesn't support the bépo dead key for ¨, nor other characters such as "…" or non no-break space.

Hi, I was wondering if «It seems also that Ktouch doesn't support […] other characters such as "…" or non no-break space» may be because those characters are missing in the original text from the exercise. You can check it out by clicking on the second option in the configuration wheel/menu on the upper right corner of the screen. It says something like «Course and keyboard layout editor...» There you'll be able to find your course and exercise. Then you tan copy the text and check it in a text editor.

Or you may be referring to those keys not being able to get inserted in ktouch. If that is the case, then we have another problem, possibly not completely related to dead keys. As far as I can tell (I've never written with BÉPO) you insert those characters by pressing Shift and/or AltGr + some specific key, don't you? I tested it on ktouch and I can insert these kind of characters (i.e. @, æ, Æ, «, », €, µ, etc.), I mean the issue I experience is only related to dead keys.

Please check also bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=410876 where the dead keys issue is being discussed.
