SUMMARY When an element has an incorrect file link and View Document fails, it does so silently, with no error in the GUI and no message printed on the command line. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. On the External tab, add or edit a file link so it's not correct 2. Trigger View Document OBSERVED RESULT Nothing happens. EXPECTED RESULT Error message is displayed in GUI and/or command line SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: 5.67.0 Qt Version: 5.14.1 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I think this behavior changed recently? I seem to remember there used to be a popup when a linked file was no longer present. Submitting a vote to bring it back. (At least when there actually is a file link -- a "no response" seems appropriate if nothing's linked.)
The "view document" button should become inaccessible in case an invalid URL or filename is entered. I would need to have more information such an example for which 'incorrect file link' this test fails. Then, in case the editing element thinks it has recognized an URL to open, the actual opening is delegated to the KDE subsystem which determines which program to use to open the URL, e.g. your browser or Okular. KBibTeX does not receive any feedback if this external process succeeds or fails.
(In reply to Thomas Fischer from comment #1) > The "view document" button should become inaccessible in case an invalid URL > or filename is entered. If yes, can you please provide additional information, such as examples for an invalid URL. Otherwise, I would like to close this bug.
Awaiting further info.
