SUMMARY Some icons are ugly. E.g. Xournal++ or a Wine app I am using. VSCode also when it is not running. While it is running, the icons is normal. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Install Latte 2. Install Xournal++ or VSCode 3. Pin the applications and close them OBSERVED RESULT Low resolution icons EXPECTED RESULT Normal looking icons SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux: Manjaro 64-bit KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.69.0 Qt Version: 5.14.2

That solves it for Xournal++, but not for VSCode. For Wine- and Chromium apps it is not possible I guess. But why does it show the right icon, when you hover over it or when the applications is running. Doesn't that mean the right information is somewhere without the WMClass parameter? Also you have to set the WMClass every time you update the application, because packagers forget about it. So a solution to make Latte independent from this parameter would be great. Cairo Dock provides an option to set custom icons for every launcher. This resolved the problem for me there. Latte does not have this option unfortunately.
Latte is using plasma libtaskmanager for everything concerning tasks and launchers. That issue should be also reproducable with plasma taskmanager. Plasma support assigning custom icons for your apps but the application desktop file should be valid. Most of these issues are upstream issues from applications that do not have accurate desktop file or they are doing some strange with their WM_CLASSES so all of this is not Latte responsibility.
Yes, I understand that. The people at VSCode said they use a quality PNG and I should use a „proper“ dock. No one wants to take responsibility and that is fine. Open source is not a company and too many apps have to work together somehow. It is not a manageable task in some cases. No offense! That is why setting custom icons would be solution, I think.
You can set custom icons in Plasma just search the internet how it is done.
BTW in my system I use the Papirus icon theme and the icon for VScode works fine.
BTW send me the link that VScode devs say that you must use a alternative proper dock to succeed in this. They need a good response for this.
Well, they said regular dock. You already posted something in that issue https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/93421

If you still consider it a bug, you can reproduce with plasma panels and taskmanagers and report to them your findings.
I am that reporter. Sometimes it is there. Then it disappears. I have no problems in Plasma panels, but with Latte yes. But I am giving up now. Close it if you like. I am really feeling tired of this discussion.
