Description pointer2002 2002-05-03 13:26:30 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kmail
Version: KDE 3.0.5 CVS/CVSup/Snapshot
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc see kmail
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

I was wondering if a new feature like adding a note to a mail graphically tight to a part of a text like knotes (which could be transfered to
forwarders) or providing a text highlighting and those kind of notes for the content would be a nice idea.
This could help promote some parts of the text and could be added to kword too as a text versionning tool (see M$Word2K).

I don't see why this was bug was closed and marked as fixed. It is a wish that was never implemented. I just came to file a similar wish and found this.

So, as the original poster had used very confusing language, I'll clarify:
1) Kmail would have highlight ability: the user could highlight part of the text of an email message, and when he reopen the message at a later date the hightlight would still be present.
2) Kmail would have a notes feature, where a note could be assigned to an email. When the user reopens the email message, his accompanying note would be there, too.

These should be implemented in a database and the original email in the mbox/maildir file would remain untouched. Much like the flags work.
