Description Jonas 2020-04-10 14:48:48 UTC
The arrow cursor turns into a looking glass and doesn't change back. It cannot draw.
Comment 1 Halla Rempt 2020-04-10 14:56:04 UTC
A looking glass? Could please attach a screenshot showing the entire Krita window and the menubar?

This is odd. It doesn’t show on the screenshot. It does show on the screen, though.

The tool you've got selected is not the painting tool, but the vector shape manipulation tool, is that the problem?
Comment 5 Jonas 2020-04-10 15:40:16 UTC
Yes, I get that. I can’t change it, and it can’t make a line.

That's so weird... Could you please try to reset Krita's settings? See https://docs.krita.org/en/KritaFAQ.html#resetting-krita-configuration -- close Krita first and then restart it.
Comment 7 vanyossi 2020-04-22 20:04:02 UTC
Hey, did you try resetting your configuration? I use Krita on mac and its been a long time since cursor glitched.

What steps you do to make the cursor change into a looking glass? is a gesture, or using the zoom tool, maybe a shortcut.
When the cursor is stuck is it only the cursor shape that is different, meaning, you can paint but the cursor is wrong, or the application menus lock and you can't press anything?

Hi again.

I am, sorry to say, not very good with computers, so I wasn’t able to reset the configuration. What happens is: I work with a project a while, and without warning the cursor changes to a looking glass. It still moves, and I can pull down menus, but it can’t draw, change tools, or fill up spaces. It can’t choose anything.

Since the menus respond, I can end the program and start up again. The file is still there, and opens at the last saved place. It works but it takes a little extra time, and kind of annoying.

Also, when I take a screenshot the cursor doesn’t show. That could maybe suggest that the problem is the computer itself, but this problem never occurs in other programs.

Otherwise it’s a great software.

Jonas

It was indeed possible to get the cursor stuck on certain actions using the pop up palette in the past. That particular case was fixed, however do try to remember if you used a particular menu, action or filter. I've been using krita and I don't get any problem with the cursor, perhaps my way of using krita is not triggering the defect.

I need some more information from you. In krita go to Help menu -> Show Krita log for bug reports. Could you paste the contents that manu displays?

Hi again.

The problem is still there. I've reinstalled it, and it's still there. I guess it must have something to do with my hardware.
Comment 15 Halla Rempt 2020-09-09 14:08:50 UTC
So the problem is that you cannot select any tool in the toolbox other than the vector object manipulation tool?
Comment 16 vanyossi 2020-09-11 01:22:04 UTC
First make sure you are using Krita latest version, that is to this date 4.3.0 There was a bug exactly as you describe before and it probably was in 4.2.9, but I dont remember.

Please also write down what where you doing when that happends.
Were you switching applications?
unsing a popup window?
adjusting layers.

be specifyc.

Finally attach the contents of Help-> show system information for bug reports
