In connection to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=419682 I would suggest to add an option to switch between simple mode in the Plasma System Settings. Simple mode should only show minimal configuration options for novice users, whereas advanced option should reveal the full power of KDE. Currently a lot of work is done to have consistent UI across different kcm modules, but this unfortunately often comes at the cost of hiding more advanced configuration options. I don't want to always have to google which configuration files I should edit to enable something that used to be possible with a simple checkbox previously. No. I don't like hiding things. >but this unfortunately often comes at the cost of hiding more advanced configuration options This is untrue. Some settings have moved into subpages (which is like your suggestion) very few working features have been lost. If you have a specific setting that isn't surfaced, please share. This is not a specific bug and therefore not actionable. Closing.
I don't think this should be closed. I filed separate bugs already, but this shows a more general pattern. As settings get polished, more and more options are missing. For example, not being able to change the "week starts with" in calendar widget. That is how Time&Date settings used to look like (many options): https://hanswchen.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/systemsettings.png And that is how it looks now (simple and almost no options): https://i.imgur.com/zzzJdsx.png This is a clear example of why simple and advanced more should be introduced. The same goes for user management: Kuser once: https://userbase.kde.org/KUser KCM for user management now: https://i.imgur.com/CJSOOOS.png
>For example, not being able to change the "week starts with" in calendar widget. That hasn't been there in 5 years. It isn't to do with the settings, but in the support of the handling widgets. It's complex. KUser wasn't the same as the KCM module. It was a standalone app for sysadmins. It has not been changed.
