Description techxgames 2020-04-04 03:12:39 UTC
SUMMARY
I didn't experience this when opening from Dolphin, but if I use Firefox to open up files, they usually open up at Firefox itself.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Save an image with Firefox
2. Open up an image

OBSERVED RESULT
Image opens up in Firefox as a separate Window

EXPECTED RESULT
Opens up preferred image viewer (in my case Gwenview)

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Kubuntu 20.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0
Qt Version: 5.12.5
Kernel Version: 5.4.0-21-generic
OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz
Memory: 15.6 GiB of RAM

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I set the defaults using Dolphin, which is why I created the bug report under Dolphin

Sounds like a bug in Firefox or how it's configured. Can you check in Firefox > Hamburger menu > Preferences > Applications > Search for "image"?

If you run `xdg-mime query default image/jpeg` in terminal (e.g. Konsole), what does it return?

It uses "Always Ask". If I open the drop down, the options were "System Handler" and "Other".

It returns org.kde.gwenview.desktop, but I'm assuming it's because I changed the mimeinfo.cache manually.

Does that mean after downloading an image file in Firefox, you click on (open) the file in Firefox's internal download manager and it opens in a new (separate) Firefox window/tab?

(If you explicitly use CTRL-O (or File > Open...) in Firefox to open the image, then it will be displayed in Firefox, which is expected.)

By the way, have you tried using a fresh Firefox profile (i.e. all Firefox settings reset to default, all extensions disabled) to see if the problem persists?

Note: After providing the information, the status can be changed to "REPORTED" (but not "NEEDSINFO FIXED").
