SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
(It is probable instruction, I did not do it from the start point - start point was 2 weeks ago then I installed new OS).

1. Install Manjaro KDE 19.0.2 (stable). Update it. Reboot.

2. Right-btn click on a desktop:
Configure desktop -> Icons section:

Setup as:

Arrangement: Columns, Align right
Sorting: manual
Icon size: 4th position out of total 6.
Label Width: Wide
Text Lines: 3
Features: All checked except "Tooltips" item.

3. Place icons on a desktop as you wish them to be. I placed couple in top left corner. Do some browser, text editor work on PC.

4. Close all windows on taskbar.

4. Reboot.

OBSERVED RESULT
Desktop space width increased in size by 2 columns to the right of the screen. Desktop became wider than monitor by that 2 columns: I see horizontal scrollbar. I have 10-15 icons which was placed before reboot w/o any scrollbar on desktop. After reboot they placed in slightly different positions than was before: they are moved to 1-3 position up/down/right.

Cure:
select all icons, positioning all of icons to the right by 2 columns: scrollbar now gone. Than, position icon as you want.

EXPECTED RESULT
After reboot icons position should not be changed. Scrollbar on a desktop should not appear by itself with 10-15 icons which takes no more than 30% of desktop space (about 70% possible icon positions are free). Lines for icons at the bottom of the desktop and in the right of screen are free of icons.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: Manjaro Linux 19.0.2 (stable). And it starts about 10 days ago: I saw than behaviour about 3 times.
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0
Qt Version: 5.14.1
Kernel version: 5.5.13-1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Some logs attached.
Comment 1 pveax 2020-03-31 21:40:02 UTC
Happened again just now. The same steps: PC reboot triggers the wider desktop space than screen size is and scroll bar appears, but I have only 9 icons on the whole desktop. Desktop became wider by 2 columns of icon position. Now screenshots attached. As you can see there is no any icons in the right side which became wider.

Repairing is again the same:
1. Focus to desktop.
2. Ctrl+A.
3. Move all selected icons to the right of the screen by 2 columns. Release mouse. Horizontal scroll bar immediately is gone.

I rebooted PC frequently 3 times: see no lack - can't reproduce by target/direct actions.
Comment 5 pveax 2020-04-01 22:16:30 UTC
Looks like I can suggest reproduction steps for the the bug:
I attached Screenshot_20200402_005354.png file there you can see illustration: create folder on a desktop with the name

"archive (deep storage, non-working settle-down files)" w/o quotes.

Place it in the top-left corner of a desktop. Reboot pc. Next time you enter your local account you'll see horizontal scrollbar of desktop became wider than screen width and that icons moved to another positions.

PS That string is not so unique: it contains only a-z chars and over symbols are very typical: ()-,.
May be it is some clue position of symbols with settings of desktop icons I wrote earlier.

Sadly to say the specific name and folder position is not the case. I saw one case then with this folder and its position there was no horizontal scrollbar after reboot and with folder named "archive only" in this top left position saw the bug.

Estimation probability of what bug happened after reboot was about 25-40%.

The lack persists on updated stable branch version.

Operating System: Manjaro Linux 20.0
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.69.0
Qt Version: 5.14.2
Kernel Version: 5.6.5-1-MANJARO
Comment 10 pveax 2020-12-12 20:59:20 UTC
The lack is still continues on newer installation of new PC.
```
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.76.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.10.0-1-MANJARO
OS Type: 64-bit
```
Comment 11 pveax 2021-08-15 23:09:33 UTC
Currently i am on

```
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.85.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.14.0-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
```

Last time I saw it a week ago, but after that I got the `KDE Frameworks Version` `5.84` -> `5.85` update.
Can't say for sure if the bug is still present. Anyway 1.5 years with no progress. Outdated bug.

If the issue is still happening with a supported version of the software, it's a valid issue and the bug report needs to stay open to track it.

Thanks for the support, Nate!

Obviously, it is:
-) bad/poor described, if for 1.5y no one can't fix or even investigate it a bit deeper (even me);
-) no one reports the same, no duplicates found;
-) I saw that possible mentioned reasons are wrong: it's independent from icon count, additional panel presence of icon's names: they was faulty mentioned.

Also after the brand new ISO installation (and w/o any old config imported)

```
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.85.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.14.0-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
```
I don't see the bug for a week and there was
```
$ journalctl --list-boots | wc -l
19
$
```
boots I do not see the issue.

Let's do that cleanup please.
If it will be again I will try to collect more information first in try to have a pointer, which triggers the issue and to have a reproducible bug, not magic from time to time.

Also:
-) new "era" features of qt6, wayland is comming;
-) there are well-reproducible and well-described and I am sure that easy to fix issues still open (like the https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441199 ticket).

So let's please concentrate developer's and other supporter's efforts on more actuall problems like: well-described, more understandable, wider shared and new features parts, to save their time to read that magic poor described (cause was poor investigated by the user (me)) issue.

Thank you, Nate!

Please go for forward, I'll post a new ticket w/ better description (if the issue will occurs again and again).

Ah, I missed that you were the reporter! If you can no longer reproduce the issue yourself, that's another matter. :) We can close it.
