PDF file with images added using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. First page has two images on top of page image. The second page has single image.

SUMMARY
On the first page of "Image Display Issue.pdf", there is an image that is native with the original file. An opaque image was superimposed over part of this image to block out the underlying image so that a second transparent image would be clearly seen when it was added. Images were added using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (Version 2020.006.20042). The opaque image was copied from MS Paint and pasted in the PDF file. The second image was copied from an MS Excel spreadsheet.

On the second page, two images were pasted on the page, one above the other. Both screenshots taken by MS Snip & Sketch (10.907.2471.0).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open attached file in Okular.
2. Images that were pasted into the document by Adobe Acrobat Reader DC do not display properly. The pasted images are partially covered by an opaque graphic that looks like a label with a corner "dog eared."
3. The opaque graphic cannot be moved off of the pasted images. It is not on a layer than can be turned off.
4. When the document is printed from Okular, the underlying images are clearly visible and the opaque graphic is not visible. See attached "Graphic Display Issue, Printing Test.pdf".
5. When the PDF is loaded by LibreOffice Draw, the opaque graphic is not visible over the images in the file, and the images display properly.

OBSERVED RESULT
Images pasted into PDF file by Adobe Acrobat Reader DC are partially blocked by a graphic of what looks like a label.

EXPECTED RESULT
Graphic images native to the PDF should display without being covered by an opaque graphic.

Interesting i don't see that on my Linux version.

Christoph can you confirm you get that on Windows?

Also which poppler version are you shipping? (not that i think it should matter, but trying to think why that would show on Windows and not on Linux)

Hello Albert,

Just to try some things, I opened the file in Chrome (and Brave), Firefox
and MS Edge browsers. None of these displayed the artifact shown by
Okular. I have no other PDF viewers I can test against.

When the file is saved by Adobe Acrobat Reader, Okular displays the
artifact, but when printed from Adobe or Okular by Bullzip PDF printer or
MS Print to PDF, there is no artifact.

Hi, I stored the PDF from this bug and opened it with the current Okular version from the store. I get there no such artifacts, looks more or less like in the internal preview of e.g. Microsoft Edge.

My Okular install says:

Okular
Version 1.9.2

Using Poppler 0.85.0

KDE Frameworks 5.67.0
Qt 5.14.0 (built against 5.14.0)

My system is a Windows 10 inside some VirtualBox.

Richard where did you get Okular from?

Windows store or KDE's binary factory?

This is really confusing, i just booted my unused Windows Machine and i don't get those artifacts either.

Can you confirm that when you have a pdf opened on the Help->About backend it says poppler 0.85?

Did you create this file or someone else sent it to you?

Does renaming the file cause the artifacts to go away?

Hello Albert,

I created the file myself using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. The two pages of
interest were extracted using PDFTK Builder. Here is a side by side
comparison screenshot:

Renaming did not solve the issue.

I tried the following:
1) Printed a blank page from MS Paint using MS Print to PDF (Blank From
Paint Using MS Print to PDF.pdf).
2) Made a "Test 1 Graphic.png" using MS Paint.
3) Used Adobe Acrobat Reader DC to embed the graphic in the blank page.
4) Saved the result using AAR DC as "Test 1 From Paint Using MS Print to
PDF.pdf".
I got the same result (Result.png). See 7zip file attached.

If you wish, we could have a meeting (Jitsi?) and try other testing
together on my laptop.

Thanks.

Richard Ferguson

I'm sorry but I am not that interested in Windows myself. Maybe someone at kde-windows mailing list is.

I get that and have been on the verge of Linux. Just not enough pain yet
with Windows to push me over the edge, but there have been some close calls.
