SUMMARY This is realy strange and sad: Kate is porly integrated with KDE desktop: settings keyboard from the desktop are entirely ignored. Even disable shortcuts in Kate does not cause using system settigns! I am realy fan about KDE but such pitfals are pure compromitation. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Try define in KDE Settigns: CTRL+TAB short cut for "Next tab" and CTRL+SHIFT+TAB as "Previous tab" - this is standard in browsers and editors word wide!!! 2. Then try to force Kate to respect this settings. 3. Then you can even try sets the same shortcuts in Kate. 4. Then: GOOD LUCK! OBSERVED RESULT Kate ignore system defined shortcuts. And report conflicts when try to define the same shortcuts in Kate shortcut editor. EXPECTED RESULT Load system defined keyboard shortcuts at first start and use them as default. Alow to customize these default settings without pure nonsense "there are ambigous shortcut conflicts" - or: report exaclty what settings cause problem. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 19.04 (available in About System) Operating System: Kubuntu 19.10 KDE Plasma Version: 5.16.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.62.0 Qt Version: 5.12.4 Kernel Version: 5.3.0-42-generic OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-10510U CPU @ 1.80GHz Memory: 22,9 GiB ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Look forward for Kubuntu 20.04 LTS and hope that you solve such nonsense...
Sorry to hear that. In the KDE shortcut settings, there are two columns - one is "Shortcut" and another one is "Alternate". Which one do you set?
Szyk I have just checked in kate from git master and when using Ctrl Tab and Ctrl Shift Tab I get a popup allowing me to cycle through open documents. Can you please retest and confirm if you are still experiencing this issue, thanks.
FWIW, the default shortcuts for cycling through tabs in KDE software is Ctrl+PageUp/PageDown, not Ctrl+Tab. Many apps do also implement Ctrl+Tab, but this is up to the app, and not all do. Kate does respect the normal Ctrl+PageUp/PageDown shortcuts.
