SUMMARY Just updated system with pkcon update. KDE System Settings is now 5.18.3 and crashes. I am not super technical so forgive me for being unable to provide more. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open System Settings 2. Try to click on anything at all in system settings under the appearence category, and the window closes and a dialog is produced saying that it crashed. OBSERVED RESULT May be related to packages or variables installed in my own system, I am not sure if this is recreated on everyone else's system as when I openned it in terminal, this was the output: " chris ~ systemsettings5 kf5.kservice.sycoca: Parse error in "/home/chris/.config/menus/applications-merged/xdg-desktop-menu-dummy.menu" , line 1 , col 1 : "unexpected end of file" kf5.kservice.services: The action "NewDocument" in the desktop file "/var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/onlyoffice-desktopeditors_onlyoffice-desktopeditors.desktop" has no Name or no Exec key kf5.kservice.services: The action "NewSpreadsheet" in the desktop file "/var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/onlyoffice-desktopeditors_onlyoffice-desktopeditors.desktop" has no Name or no Exec key kf5.kservice.services: The action "NewPresentation" in the desktop file "/var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/onlyoffice-desktopeditors_onlyoffice-desktopeditors.desktop" has no Name or no Exec key kf5.kconfig.core: "KConfigIni: In file /usr/share/applications/wavebox.desktop, line 5: " "Invalid escape sequence \"\\>\"." kf5.kservice.services: The desktop entry file "/home/chris/.local/share/applications/Wikipedia.desktop" has Type= "Link" instead of "Application" or "Service" kf5.kservice.sycoca: Invalid Service : "/home/chris/.local/share/applications/Wikipedia.desktop" kf5.kservice.services: The desktop entry file "/home/chris/.local/share/applications/Link to Application.desktop" has Type= "Application" but no Exec line kf5.kservice.sycoca: Invalid Service : "/home/chris/.local/share/applications/Link to Application.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/usr/share/applications/kde-mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "org.kde.discover.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/home/chris/.config/mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "vlc.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/home/chris/.config/mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "org.kde.kaffeine.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/home/chris/.config/mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "org.kde.dragonplayer.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/home/chris/.config/mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "firefox.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/home/chris/.config/mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "vlc.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/home/chris/.config/mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "discord-455712169795780630.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/home/chris/.config/mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "vivaldi-stable.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/home/chris/.config/mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "vivaldi-stable.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/home/chris/.config/mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "mailspring.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/home/chris/.config/mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "ktelnetservice.desktop" kf5.kservice.sycoca: "/home/chris/.config/mimeapps.list" specifies external service (ex: absolute path), this isn't supported: "telegramdesktop.desktop" QQmlEngine::setContextForObject(): Object already has a QQmlContext QQmlEngine::setContextForObject(): Object already has a QQmlContext QCoreApplication::postEvent: Unexpected null receiver file:///usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/qml/org/kde/newstuff/qml/QuestionAsker.qml:106:5: QML Connections: Cannot assign to non-existent property "onClosing" KCrash: crashing... crashRecursionCounter = 2 KCrash: Application Name = systemsettings5 path = /usr/bin pid = 7164 KCrash: Arguments: /usr/bin/systemsettings5 KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit sock_file=/run/user/1000/kdeinit5__0 [1]+ Stopped systemsettings5" EXPECTED RESULT Settings to open and not crash. it's crashing on Neon unstable too.
Does this happen with a newer version of Plasma? Like 5.19 or 5.20? If so, can you attach a backtrace of the crash?
