SUMMARY
I connected my iPad via USB, answered the "sure to trust this computer" on iPad with "Yes". Then Dolphin came up with "a new camera(!) has been found". And when I wanted to see the content, following errMsg appeared:

Unbekannter Fehlercode 150
I/O problem
Bitte senden Sie einen ausführlichen Problembericht an http://bugs.kde.org.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. connecting iPad
2. answering YES the Q: trust this computer
3. trying to open directory => I/O err 150

OBSERVED RESULT
i/O err 150

EXPECTED RESULT
contents of dir of iPad

Thank you for your bug report. Which version of Dolphin are you using? Linux Mint 18.1 is a rather old LTS distribution - it's easily possible that your issue is already fixed in a newer version of Dolphin.

   Hi, Julian, yes, probably it's a out-of-date issue; due to other
   reasons i switched to XFCE / Cinnamon for my year-old-laptop Thinkpad
   W500 where I don't any problems connecting my iPad :-)thx for asking,
