When you go to the updates page, the first app may be (pre)selected or you may select it yourself.
As long as you hover the mouse over it, the contrast with the text is very low but especially the checkbox and its state are hardly discoverable (no pun intended).

Just brainstorming: Maybe considering a rectangle / frame in a different color were a better solution to the contrast issue overall.

Fixed in 5.18 already! :)
