Same thing with kate 19.12.2 on Arch Linux.
I've just tested and I cannot reproduce this issue. Can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved. I'm setting status to "needsinfo" pending your response, please change back to "reported" or "resolved" when you respond, thanks.
it's still reproducible with kate 20.12 beta on Arch Linux and master on neon unstable.
Hello, I haven't had a chance to test this again on Windows. But I do want to note that there was some inconsistency in reproducing this that I never could characterize.
I agree it is completely ambiguous and even inconsistent. When "Load last used session" is set, kate always starts with a new, anonymous session (dropping the state of the previous). However, it is only true until you explicitly start or open a session. From then on, kate will always open that session. Even if launched w/o --start. Or if you do a 'kate --startanon', quit that and then just 'kate', it will return to the session from before the anon. It seems you are stuck to that session. Even if you start a new session (kate menu -> session -> new session), quit kate and 'kate', it returns to the session from before the new session. This is tested with kate on master.
