Created attachment 125935 [details] KCalc is not installed but Discover says KCalc is installed I know that Kcalc app officially is not included in KDE and a user has to install it. let's see how an inexperienced user would do with Discover app. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. I go to Discover and search for "calculator" 2. I see that it has already been installed. I check that and see that I do not have this app installed. 3. if i click "Remove" that will remove some useful additional packages. Which i did not of course. I have it installed via a command line OBSERVED RESULT this is not what a friendly os should do. EXPECTED RESULT it is expected that Calculator should be present as default app installed. Or! any user should install it by himself via Discover app but not in that way as i described. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 15.8 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.67.0 Qt Version: 5.13.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION i have a fresh KDE installation. this is not an update from the older versions
The Decision regarding what to install by default is up to the distro--in this case Neon--not Discover. However, let's find out whether or not it really is installed! :) If you click on KCalc in that Discover list, is there a "Run" button in the top-right corner of the window? If there is, and you click on it, what happens? if you run `kcalc` in a terminal window, what happens?
Nate, like i said it earlier I had to install the Kcalc via a command line. but i remember that when I was searching for a calculator through a Launcher it showed me that I had not any calculator. So i searched for it in Discover. and it said that Kcalc was installed and the button Remove. I clicked it and a warning "Confirm package removal this action will also remove the folliwing packages (and the enumeration: Quick Share, Color Picker, Dictionary, Fuzzzy Clock, Notes, etc. (i have a screenshot) Now, after installing the app via a command line, i see it has the Remove, Launch buttons. I clicked Remove and the app has been removed without the warning that it would delete additional packages. i will try to install Manjaro KDE and inform you if there is the error again.
sorry my mistake.of course, there is no Discover in Manjaro :-).
> I clicked it and a warning "Confirm package removal this action will also remove > the folliwing packages (and the enumeration: Quick Share, Color Picker, > Dictionary, Fuzzzy Clock, Notes, etc. (i have a screenshot) FWIW, this would be a packaging error in Manjaro by putting kcalc inside the `kdeplasma-extras` package. That isn't appropriate. You should ask them about that.
Are you confusing KCalc with with Plasma calculator widget? The latter would indeed be in kdeplasma-addons.
Ah, that does indeed look like what's happening. Thanks for the clue, Christoph! So what's happening here is that you have the kdeplasma-addons package installed, which provides a widget calculator. This is a plasma widget, not a standalone app. It shows up in Discover, somewhat confusingly, as a standalone entry rather than as a component of the "Plasma addons" addon You do not have kcalc installed. If you search for "kcalc" "or "calculator" in discover, does it reveal KCalc and allow you to install it?
