The tree view of albums does not let me scroll while dragging an album (folder) to move it. This makes it impossible to move an album anywhere if I have more albums (folders) than those that fit in one vertical length of the screen. I just want to move from /path/to/photos/import/foo to /path/to/photos/foo. Which requires me to drag foo up the tree until I reach the root "photos" folder. Which is impossible, because I happen to have a few directories inside "photos". I see no way to do this. Dragging "foo" and scrolling the mouse wheel does not work. Dragging "foo" until the top of the tree view just changes the mouse cursor to a little forbidden sign, instead of scrolling. Right-clicking on "foo" does not show any "Move album to..." option. I could find no way in the UI or in the menus to change the default Album tree view to any other kind of view (e.g. folder icons, as in Dolphin). I am aware I can just move the directory outside of Digikam, but that will leave the sqlite DB out of sync with reality. Which defeats the whole purpose of using Digikam to manage my photo collection... I am setting to major since this is a pretty basic feature. I am happy to be proven wrong if it turns out there is an obvious step I forgot to take, but whatever it is, doesn't seem to be so obvious. Can you please implement a usable way of moving folders in the folder (album) view? Ideally, at least automatic scrolling when the user is dragging and reaches the top/bottom of the tree widget. Also a right-click "Move to" option, to avoid dragging altogether would be welcome.
This problem is solved in digiKam-7.0.0-Beta3 with these bug reports: Bug 413985 Bug 417257 The Bug 400960 was the reason that we temporarily deactivated automatic scrolling. Maik

Hi Maik, Thank you for your response, and referencing the other bugs. It's good news that this is fixed in the beta version. Could you please port the fix to the current stable too? This seems like a pretty critical feature (the ability to move albums around), and it's currently not working for the stable version unless the user has just half a dozen albums. I'd really like to not have to start using beta for my real photo collection... I saw the relevant commits from those bugs seem to be: https://invent.kde.org/kde/digikam/commit/b643efd40614162c05d1afa2864d273a93db7acf https://invent.kde.org/kde/digikam/commit/29c6c9510876d4c38558e44717c7d019ec2b69f4 Are the two necessary for the fix, or does the second commit obsolete the former? I ask, as I may open a bug in my Linux distro (Gentoo) asking for a backport for their package, just to get the update in quicker. Still an issue in 6.4.0. Even if fixed, file management is still very bad, most importantly a view where multiple folders can be moved at once is needed to make file management work better. -- Kindly, Anders
