The Search field is active now at start up, but there is no blinking cursor at the text field - a little misleading for most of the users, they may not be aware that they can type with the keyboard right away in order to search for applications ...

I have tested Kubuntu 20.04 Daily Image and KDE Neon User edition as of 11.02.2020 and the blinking cursor is still not there - a little more work is needed ...

Force focus to the search field properly

This makes it blink as expected, and also respects the setting for
whether or not to show the virtual keyboard.
