SUMMARY

I know that I need to have network-manager installed to use the plasma-nm app, but can we also have an app that can interface with systemd-networkd?  I know that this is a bit of a big-ask so I appreciate it if it's not possible! It's simply about choice, rather than anything else!

That would require completely different applet or making the current one to support multiple backends + writing a new backend. I don't think this is going to happen anytime soon. It's a lot of work at this moment for a small benefit.
