SUMMARY Photos were imported into a temporary folder and reviewed in 'Preview' mode. Date, description, tags, and face tags were added to each photo. Excess photos were deleted. Finalized photos with data and tags added were moved to another folder. When the images were 'refreshed' and displayed in the new folder in 'Thumbnails' view, all the data and tags were missing. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Images imported into folder 'A'. 2. Images viewed in digikam 'Albums' tab. 3. Tags added to each image in 'Preview' mode. 4. In MacOS Finder, images are moved from folder 'A' to folder 'B'. 5. In digikam, 'Albums' tab, 'Thumbnails' mode, view is refreshed with 'F5', images from folder 'A' disappear. 6. In digikam, 'Albums' tab, 'Thumbnails' mode, folder 'B' is selected and the view is refreshed with 'F5', images in folder 'B' appear but without any tags. OBSERVED RESULT Tags and data disappear when transferred to another folder. EXPECTED RESULT The tags and data should be saved and attached to each image, regardless if they are moved to another folder or shared to another drive or sent via email. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS macOS: Catalina ver#10.15.3 (19D76) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The error is that they have moved the images with the Finder. The images must be moved inside and with digiKam to other albums if they do not save all metadata such as tags, comments etc. in the images. To do this, the corresponding settings must be activated in the digiKam metadata setting, or for RAW files the reading and writting to sidecars. Within digiKam, sidecars and added metadata are also copied when the image is moved. The finder doesn't do that. Maik

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=426938 --- Comment #4 from caulier.gilles@gmail.com --- Hi, digiKam 7.2.0-beta2 pre-release PKG installer now support BigSur and is compiled with last stable Qt 5.15.2. https://files.kde.org/digikam/ Problem still reproducible with this version. Thanks and happy Christmas in advance Best Regards Gilles Caulier
Use digiKam to move images and folders or if using the finder make sure all metadata has been written to the images. Due to current error corrections when scanning and finding images in the database, I am closing this bug report. Maik
