SUMMARY After upgrade of Android One to version 10, trying to use multimedia controls with several sources(youtube, spotify, vlc), crashes android ui which becomes unusable and unresponsive. Andorid reboots after about 30 seconds asking to reset to factory settings. After doing this and only installing kdeconnect problem persists. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Using Android One 10, clean install (no other apps) 2. Installing kdeconnect on Manjaro with Plasma Desktop. 3. Open multimedia controls with any source playing on PC OBSERVED RESULT Severe crash on Android, becomes unusable and reboots asking factory reset. EXPECTED RESULT Normal behavour SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: Manjaro / (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.66.0 Qt Version: 5.14.0 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION KDEConnect version on Android One: 1.13.7 Hardware: Xiaomi Mi A2 Independent of firewall being up or down
Almost same behavior on ArchLinux w/ Plasma 5.21.1-1, kdeconnect 20.12.2-1 and Android 10 (on Xiaomi Mi A2). When KDE Connect is running, media control is enabled and video is playing in Firefox (from youtube in my case) phone is unresponsive, power button turns lock screen briefly, attempts to unblock or just show screen to enter swipe unblock code (don't know how it's properly called when you have to swipe over dot matrix as a passcode). If media player is paused phone become responsive again. Doesn't matter if play was started from control in kdeconnect on mobile or just in browser on laptop, phone just hangs.
Same behavior on Manjaro w/ Plasma 5.25.5, kdeconnect 22.08.0-1 and Android 12 (Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G w/ MIUI 13.0.5), kdeconnect 1.19.1 from Play Store. The bug I remember having it more than a year ago with my Xiaomi Redmi 7 (Android 10 w/ MIUI 12) and in Manjaro w/ Plasma, Kubuntu and KDE Neon. In my case, the Android UI crash when I'm playing something in a browser on my PC (Firefox, Chrome, Brave) and on my mobile I want to play Spotify (only happens on Spotify). It slowly starts to crash everything until tells me Android UI has stopped. Something that could be relevant is that the music app on my Smartwatch (Samsung) goes crazy to switch between playing Spotify and what the browser is playing on my PC. It can be solved by disabling the "Multimedia controls" or within that setting by disabling the "Show media control notification" in the app.
