 I'm also attaching a test file.

EXPECTED RESULT
line number is always entirely readable.

Bug shows with large font sizes.

Assuming it's the same bug, it also manifests on the Windows build (from the MS Store) with any line number over 3 characters or more than 99 lines.

cannot reproduce with kate 20.04.2 even with font size set to 22.

Still reproducible with very large font sizes (just press Ctrl++ until you see it). The code wasn't changed.

I get the bug with line numbers with more than 5 digits, at really large font sizes.
