Description doud 2020-01-16 10:29:47 UTC
SUMMARY

When I try to render my animation into MP4 OR MKV, the colors of the video gets washed out, grayish but when I export it into PNG, it's okay. I use RVB profile of course. It does that with all my animation.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Make the animation, coloring
2. Rendering into MKV
3. Get the video but wrong colors

OBSERVED RESULT

Video with washed out colors

When it export the frames, it's okay then when it encodes them, I think that's where the problem begins

EXPECTED RESULT

Normal colors

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: 10

KDE Plasma Version:
KDE Frameworks Version:
Qt Version: 5.12.5

Hi, doud!

Are you sure you didn't activate HDR options in the rendering settings? The image looks as if you have Bt2020-PQ color space activated in the video.

Copying from https://www.reddit.com/r/krita/comments/epbwuy/grey_washed_out_colors_when_exporting_animation/ :

Go to Render Animation and choose option Both; then press the [...] button next to the dropdown that shows PNG. Make sure you used "force convert to sRGB", "embed sRGB profile" and unchecked "save as HDR image". Then go to [...] button next to the mp4 or mkv option. Make sure "HDR mode" is unchecked. Then after rendering it should go just fine.

Though if it works, I would still want this report to stay. There must be an easy solution for users to switch between HDR and non-HDR mode. In both cases we can use those HDR checkboxes: "save as HDR image" and "HDR mode" to implement one, easier accessible, that would switch this automatically.

I would also want to know if there is a way to make sure the correct mode is chosen based on the color profile, but I doubt it...

lol that was my reddit post, but thank you a lot too, the reddit answer worked :)

Confirming. Since there were already a few people having the same issue on reddit, I believe it would be good to make some safety checks in Krita so it doesn't happen.

With new HDR settings synchronization, this issue should be resolved.
