okular messages screenshot

SUMMARY

Each time when I open one of my pdf books I see two large messages in Okular.
I'm not interested in those messages and I switched off "hints and info messages" in settings but anyway they are shown each time.
See screenshot please.

That's not considered a hint.

A hint is the thing that tells you how to use the tools, for example https://i.imgur.com/aEZMYMT.png

It's a very vague difference in my opinion. Both messages tell me where I can find some tools if not how to use them.
But OK.
So what are these messages and how a user can get rid of them?
By the way, the subject of my bug report is named "hints", but menu item is named "hints and messages".
Are these elements - messages?
Comment 3 Albert Astals Cid 2019-12-28 22:53:51 UTC
You can't get rid of those.

If you want to get rid of those you can open a new wishlist item about it

Before I finally stop to bother you, would you please clarify to me one more thing?

The checkbox on [Ocular - Configure - General options] (as it is seen on my screenshot) says "Show hints and info messages". This checkbox is unchecked and yet I see some messages.

You said me that items which I do not want to see are not hints. But you didn't answer to the question - what are they. How they should be called?

If they are "info messages" - my bug report still holds.

If not - I give up.

"Ocular"

If you want me to go the extra mile and explain things you are not owed to be explained, you should try to write the name of the application correctly.

Since you're bothering me as you already agreed, I'm going to ignore this bug in the future.

Albert, relax, it is a valid question. Case in point: I don't know how they are called either.

Same issue on Okular 1.9.3. OS: Arch Linux.

1. Can you describe the problem and bug in more detail?
Notifications, messages (or whatever they are called) keep showing even when the option to show them is disabled.

When trying to open a PDF which has either forms or a signal signature, disabling the "General Options > Show hints and info messages" won't disable the notifications.

These notifications show when A. Opening the PDF, and B) When saving the document (if the user had closed the notifications beforehand).
In special B. is *very* annoying.

2. How can we replicate the issue?
   A.
   A.1. Open Okular;
   A.2. Open settings;
   A.3. Disable "Show hints and info messages";
   A.4. Click OK;
   A.5. Open a PDF file with either forms or digital signature.

   B.
   B.1. Open Okular;
   B.2. Open settings;
   B.3. Disable "Show hints and info messages";
   B.4. Click OK;
   B.5. Open a PDF file with either forms or digital signature;
   B.6. Close notifications;
   B.7. Open review;
   B.8. Make an highlight or annotation, etc;
   B.9. Save the file.

3. Expected behavior (i.e. solution)
If option "Show hints and info messages", then do not show any notification.

4. Other comments
Although notifications for forms or signatures won't be disabled, notifications for embedded fire are disabled after disabling the option.

> You said me that items which I do not want to see are not hints. But you didn't answer to the question - what are they. How they should be called?
>> If you want me to go the extra mile and explain things you are not owed to be explained, you should try to write the name of the application correctly.
This doesn't help. The option "Show hints and info messages" induces the user to an unexpected behavior. With a name like this, it was either not carefully chosen or the software isn't doing what it is supposed to do.

Besides, the handbook hasn't any documentation on what these notifications are called. I suppose something else. But, IMO, to enhance usability, they should just be the same. It just says "Whether to show some informative messages on startup, file load, etc."

Added screenshot as reference. First frame the option is enabled. Second frame option is disabled.
