Created attachment 124437 [details] Video demonstrating the issue. SUMMARY Dolphin freezes on startup for a second or two if there is a very large amount of tags, and modifying items in the Places panel, for example, hiding an item, causes a huge delay and a lot of lag. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Create a large amount of tags (I tested with 350 tags) 2. Open (or restart) Dolphin 3. Hide an item in the Places panel OBSERVED RESULT Dolphin hangs for a second or two as it reads and parses the user-places.xbel file, and modifying Places causes it to lag, and it takes seconds until the change is completed. The problem seems to get worse every object you modify in Places. EXPECTED RESULT Dolphin does not freeze on startup and modifying the Places panel is responsive and instant. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Linux 5.3.0-24, Kubuntu 19.10 with Backports PPA KDE Plasma Version: Plasma 5.17.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.64.0 Qt Version: 5.12.4 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This issue seems to depend on the speed of the machine running Dolphin. A slower computer might be worse off, and a faster computer might not have this issue.
This could also be a result of just having a large amount of places for the panel to display, however the easiest way to get that many places is with tags.
Does the same delay occur when opening a file open/save dialog? If not, then this should be fixed in the next version of Dolphin.
