SUMMARY dolphin start up takes 28 seconds if /usr/libexec/kactivitymanagerd is not running. By default i3 does not care/know about /usr/libexec/kactivitymanagerd. Even when /usr/libexec/kactivitymanagerd runs, dolphin lacks basic functionality: - right click menu on files, does not appear at all (so no 'open with...' or see properties' options) - when exiting from within the program, it takes about 45 sec to shut down. All in all, dolphin should start (fast) and function normaly, even if not run inside a KDE-Plasma desktop environment. For now on Fedore-KDE-spin, it does not. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. install Fedora 31 KDE-spin 2. install i3 and run it 3. start dolphin and see the errors listed above OBSERVED RESULT EXPECTED RESULT Should work just as it does in the KDE-Plasma Desktop. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora 31 KDE spin (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.64.0-1.fc31 KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I found /usr/libexec/kdeconnectd is also needed to run. Now that it runs, dolphin works fine. I still feel it is a bug if an applications does not complain about dependencies that are missing at run time. (e.g. /usr/libexec/kdeconnectd)
I've just tested this on Archbang i3 and dolphin runs as expected, Open with, properties and it starts up and shuts down fast. Can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved. I'm setting status to "needsinfo" pending your response, please change back to "reported" or "resolved" when you respond, thanks.
