Description Hallar 2019-12-02 10:46:04 UTC
When i close the laptop lid the opened programs do not show up the external monitor.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. In icons only taskmanager widget i have checked the following 3 options

Show only tasks from:
 - current screen
 - current desktop
 - current activity

2. I open some programs on the laptop

3. I connect the external monitor and close the laptop lid (laptop screen is turned off)

4. Primary desktop shows up on the external monitor.

OBSERVED RESULT

The programs that were opened on the laptop screen do not show on the external screen.

EXPECTED RESULT

I expect if the laptop lid gets closed the open programs will move to the external monitor.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 18.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.12.9
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.44.0
Qt Version: 5.9.5

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I had the same issues on KDE Neon as well. And there is no way on how to make them move to the new primary output

Does it work if you uncheck "current screen"? If so, then this would be the expected behavior since the tasks were in fact opened on a different screen.
Comment 2 Hallar 2019-12-02 21:23:29 UTC
Yes it does, but this makes the feature completely useless. It is super annoying that i cant see my open programs when the laptop lid is closed. I have more than one external screen and use this feature to keep tasks organized. The issue here is that when the laptop screen turns off everything should transfer over to the external screen since that has become the primary screen now. What i want is for the tasks from the turned off display to collapse on the primary screen, but when the display turns on again to move back to that screen.

I can see how that would be really annoying.

Thinking deeply here, the purpose of this feature is for management of windows in a multi-screen environment. When there's a single screen, being strict like this doesn't really make sense.

Alternatively maybe we could have the feature internally disable itself when there's only one screen.

I must agree with Hallar - it is super annoying - I have two work setups - one with 3 monitors one with 2 monitors.
Whenever I change my work place I'm left with main display not displaying the tasks that were started on the main display but with different monitor setup.
