Description Manu 2019-11-26 16:05:12 UTC
SUMMARY
Weighted brush smoothing doesn't work.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have a file opened after starting krita, with the freehand brush tool set the brush smoothing to "weighted" and try drawing curves, it doesn't has any latency to show smoothing is on. The lines are normal.
2. Open a second file, draw a line in and go back to the first opened file
3. Draw curved lines again, the smoothing is working.

OBSERVED RESULT
Weighted brush smoothing doesn't work unless i draw in a second file.

EXPECTED RESULT
Weighted brush smoothing should work.

Using 4.2.7.1 and 4.2.8 in appimage and Windows 64-bit .zip packages, I don't see this.
If I start krita and open a file, or create a new file, Weighted brush smoothing works immediately.

That's weird, i always keep my krita up to date and i stil have this issue in 4.2.8. I have to redo the manipulation every time because the weighted smoothing brush seems to lost the focus if i do something else than drawing in krita or switching to other applications in windows.

Hi Manu,

What size, color model and channel depth are your images? Could you attach the contents of Help->System Information for Bug Reports?

That doesn't show anything weird either. I cannot reproduce this either :-(

Ok i should have done that earlier, i posted a video to show the problem i have and i'll describe the differents steps that get me this bug:

Link to the video => https://youtu.be/ThLW7-LdQQI

-first, the weighted smoothing is not working at krita start, i draw some strokes and forms to show they are shaky like normal.

-i tweak the distance value, it seems to work but when i zoom in or out the weight disappear! (it also disappear every time i let krita in the background for another window on my desktop)

-i create a new document and draw something on it, then i go back to drawing on the first one, the weight is back.

-panning the canvas(also rotating) doesn't affect the weighted smoothing, just zooming.

-i do a bit more testing at the end, sometimes when i set the maximum value without switching on the second document, the weight doesn't seems to fit it feels less weighted, also zoooming doesn't reset the weight, that's weird.

So in summary, every time i need to do lineart on my illustrations, i have to open a second document to recover the weighted smoothing, and i must avoid zooming or switching to browser or other applications, wich i can't do obviously when i need to do draw small details or to look at references.
