Description luca.finizio.mgbx 2019-11-19 15:01:11 UTC
SUMMARY
I added ecosia.org as my default search engine but when I search anything in the navigation toolbar the browser let me to Ecosia homepage. I can also search something by writing in the Ecosia homepage, otherwise I won't be able to search anything.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to "Tools"->"Preferences"->"Others"
2. Add ecosia.org to the search engines and set it as the default search engine.
(I also deleted all others search engines).
3. Clicck "Apply" and then "OK".
4. Try to search anything in the navigation toolbar

OBSERVED RESULT
The broswers promts you to the Ecosia homepage

EXPECTED RESULT
The broswer should make a search with Ecosia for the inserted words.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I have the same problem with Linux Mint 19.2

Works fine here.

I added Ecosia search engine with "Add Ecosia ..." option in searchBar.
It works as it should.

Search engine config options:
Name: Ecosia
URL: https://www.ecosia.org/search?q=%s&addon=opensearch
...

Now it works for me too! It didn't work for days, today I turn on my Windows PC and it works! This evening I'll also check on Linux Mint.

I still have this problem on Linux Mint 19.2.
I made a video where you can see the problem: https://youtu.be/Zc7tn8x_W4Q
I also tried to set the default search engine and then restart the pc, but the problem is still there.

1. Preferences > Tabs > Address Bar Behaviour > Search with Default Engine [Check]
If it is checked the default Search Engine is used.
If it is NOT checked the selected Search Engine in search bar is used.

2. At first you wrote into the URL field only ecosia homepage without any parameter. (like that would work)
Than you copied the right URL with required parameters but you still failed because of option mentioned in [1].

PS: Why to restart whole machine to change settings in web browser? This is not Internet Explorer.

Yes, it solved the problem, I'm sorry, my bad!
Anyway I think that setting search engine to ecosia.org instead of https://www.ecosia.org/search?q=%s&addon=opensearch is way better and easier for non expert users (like me XD ), but this is just a suggestion.
Thank you so much for your support!
