SUMMARY
kdenlive refuses to load kdenlive files beyond a certain percentage.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Literally opening any project file.
2.
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
The percentage at which it stops is different for every file, but it does stop for all of them. One stops at 50%, another stops at 68%, and my main project will not go beyond 78% no matter what I try to do.

The program does not crash though, and the action of loading a file can be canceled without the program freezing. I even tried deleting one of the video files present in the kdenlive project, and it gave me the usual error message of being unable to ascertain where that file is.

Regardless, it still refuses to load beyond a certain percentage.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 Joe 2019-11-08 02:05:33 UTC
Update: I discovered that the number of timeline tracks does load, and can be interacted with. The problem is there's nothing in them, and the dialog box still says "Loading Clips".

When I exit out of this box, the program remains open, though if I do too much it crashes. I also tried deleting Cache, and it did allow me to do this, though to no affect to the Loading Clips box.

Could you attach or mail me the .kdenlive project file so that I can have a look at the problem? Thanks

project loading fails all times when i select OpenGLES backend on Windows 10 (without Intel card) but maybe this is not related to your report...
Comment 5 Joe 2019-11-08 20:22:37 UTC
well i don't know anything about OpenGL, and whatever issue there is seems to be a problem with the program itself, so
Comment 6 Joe 2019-11-09 04:23:43 UTC
Update: Deleting and reinstalling kdenlive doesn't fix the issue. I'm working with 19.08.2.

I would try and get an older version, but none of the downloads for prior versions work. They all come off as malware, or are unable to open. Dunno why they don't provide the .exe files directly instead of with that zip folder thing, that way I don't have to fetch them from a secondhand site.
Comment 7 Davy Bartoloni 2019-11-09 08:01:15 UTC
Releases can be downloaded from here: https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/
Comment 8 Joe 2019-11-09 16:50:17 UTC
the problem still occurs with 19.08.1, and earlier versions are too incompatible with the present files.

also, files in between keep registering as malware.
Comment 9 Jean-Baptiste Mardelle 2019-11-09 17:06:02 UTC
I had a look at the project file and nothing seems strange. I can open the project (without having the video files).

What happens if you start from blank a new project, add a color clip, save and try to re-open this project ?

Then try the same with one video file ?
Comment 10 Joe 2019-11-09 17:13:58 UTC
alright, this only gets weirder. i tried to save as a file 2 times, and the program freezes.

then i tried adding 3 images to the project bin, and placing them in the timeline. none of them would. and after i tried to save with this file, not only did the program freeze, it completely crashed and shutdown.

working with the 19.08.1 build.
Comment 11 Joe 2019-11-09 20:33:17 UTC
I went back to the 19.08.2 install version without it registering as malware. I deleted all prior kdenlive files aside from the project backup files. I still have the same crashing and freezing issues loading and saving programs.

I saw in some online threads that the Intel driver would be affecting the program, but my Intel chip driver has been the same for a while now.

The only thing I can think of that could be affecting it is that around November 6th I think I downloaded a new GeForce graphics driver, and also a Windows 10 update. Otherwise, I dunno what the problem is.
Comment 12 Joe 2019-11-09 20:36:49 UTC
And btw, I originally started using kdenlive with the 19.08.2 version around October 11th instead of an older version, but it's been doing this since November 6th.

I can load your project file in Windows. Please try the following:
- Rename 17.40.48.02.mp4 to 17-40-48-02.mp4.
- Goto "help" -> *reset configuration".
- Make sure the path in the environment settings point to the same path as "MLT profiles folder".
Comment 14 Joe 2019-11-10 16:19:45 UTC
i don't know what you mean by the last step
Comment 15 Joe 2019-11-10 16:23:44 UTC
oh wait no, i see what you mean.

it points to the mlt/profiles folder like you say, but the problems still persist.

if you don't think i'm having them then i could record me trying to open and save a file.

The project file you uploaded here is that the same as you load in the video? If not just upload the project file you show in the video.
The file you show on the video creates a lot of tracks. The project file here uploaded contains only 1 clip and 2 tracks.
Comment 18 Joe 2019-11-10 22:42:14 UTC
i don't think it really matters since it's affecting all of my files, not just that one. that one is also really big, i can't just upload it.

Could you do a reset following this steps: https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/Windows_Issues#Cannot_open_projects_made_with_previous_version.2C_timeline_snaps_back.2C_cannot_import_clip. And try to load the project file afterwards.

If this is not solving the issue it could be an openGL issue ("cannot place image to the timeline"). Let me know the Win10 version, CPU and graphic card you have and which driver version.

Could you test the following: download the latest nightly build https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/Kdenlive_Nightly_mingw64/. Take the top file which ends with .7z.

Unpack it -> goto the bin folder and double click Kdenlive.exe (no installation needed). Try to load your project file.

If it fails -> goto settings -> OpenGL Backend -> try with different settings (changing the OpenGL setting force a restart of Kdenlive). Try to load your project after each change.
Comment 21 Joe 2019-11-11 20:00:51 UTC
OH MY GOD, the reset changing kdenliverc to kdenliverc.old fixed the problem! Dunno how the hell that works, but it works great now so whatever lol. I would've NEVER known to do that to fix the issue.

I really appreciate all of ya'll helping me out, and sorry for dragging this on longer than necessary. I just had a whole project I'd been working on for a while, and I didn't want to have to abandon it.

If anything else goes awry then I'll post a different bug report. Thanks again!

Thank you for the feedback. Glad to hear it works.
