SUMMARY This is probably a general KDE problem, or a problem with non-KDE apps, but it's occurring for me in Chromium and Kate. I am unable to copy and paste somewhat large (>1MB) of textual data into Kate, when that data is copied from Chromium. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Copy largish amounts of text from a Chromium page (I used https://archive.org/stream/privateoffice03butlrich/privateoffice03butlrich_djvu.txt) 2. Attempt to paste that data into Kate 3. Paste fails OBSERVED RESULT The copied data is not pasted into Kate EXPECTED RESULT The copied data should be pasted Smaller amounts of data successfully copies and pastes between the two applications. This problem has occurred for several years, I believe. After further testing, the problem also occurs when attempting to copy and paste from Libreoffice Writer into Kate, and the text threshold is much lower. Attempting to copy and paste 300KB of data fails as well. Operating System: KDE neon 5.17 KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.1 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.63.0 Qt Version: 5.13.1 Kernel Version: 4.15.0-66-generic OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 8 × AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor Memory: 7.8 GiB of RAM
Yesterday I was affected by this problem. I was unable to paste long txt from Opera browser to Kate and Gedit text editors. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.90 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.66.0 Qt Version: 5.14.0
Greg I've just tested this in kate from git master and cannot reproduce the issue with the entire text from the link you provided. I used Vivaldi (chromium based) and pasted into kate. Can you please re-retest and confirm if this is still an issue. Patrick if this is still happening for you please provide a link to the text so I can test as well.
Problem is still occurring, trying to copy from Chromium to Kate. Possibly a duplicate of: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=381997
(In reply to Greg Lepore from comment #3) > Problem is still occurring, trying to copy from Chromium to Kate. Possibly a > duplicate of: > > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=381997 Are you able to test with Firefox, if it's the same with Firefox then the bug can be merged.
The problem also occurs in Firefox. I also installed Falkon and the problem occured there as well.
