Description Harry Coin 2019-10-21 02:37:05 UTC
SUMMARY
Phone videos are silently corrupted during transfer.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Take a phone video >= 512MB.
2. Connect via KDEConnect's android app, open dolphin, surf to DCIM directory, select all, copy.
3. Surf to local directly, paste.
4. Wait. Normal termination reported.

OBSERVED RESULT
Movie files (larger) correctly match size, dates, names. However, the content is quite wrong.
Proven by removing the memory chip from the phone, copying via direct connection, then comparing the files.
Latest ubuntu eoan kdeconnect 1.3.5-0ubuntu1 Android kdeconnect version 1.13.2, Samsung galaxy s8 / verizon.

same issue with me Galaxy S9+ - latest phone OS updates. Even some of the smaller pictures come out corrupted. I can't even view them from my computer. If I select them on the phone and then "share" them through KDE Connect, they come out fine.

KDEConnect app 1.13.2
KDEConnect-kde 1.3.5
Operating System: openSUSE Leap 15.1
KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.63.0
Qt Version: 5.13.1
Kernel Version: 4.12.14-lp151.28.25-default
OS Type: 64-bit

Same here with Galaxy S8+. I ran a binary diff with a file that I copied twice and the glitch happened once at position 0x8000 an once at position 0x10000.

What is also noteworthy: the issue only happens when I initiate the copy from the KDE desktop. The problems does not appear when I initiate the copy from the smartphone.

This is a very critical bug in my opinion because you will lose video files by moving them from the smartphone to the desktop.
