SUMMARY Can't move kruler off screen or change it's length. Thus, it's difficult to measure anything from a fixed point on the ruler. I can measure from something other than the point I want, but that's a hassle. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open kruler 2. Find that you can't move it off screen or change its length OBSERVED RESULT EXPECTED RESULT SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: OpenSUSE 15.1 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.12.8 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.55.0 Qt Version: 5.9.7 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If I enable "native movement" in the kruler configuration, then I can move it off-screen which makes measuring easier. This should be enabled by default on first run since it provides maximum flexibility. Is there some reason against that? With regard to changing the length, it looks like the capability is still there, but now uses a different approach - rather than choosing from a few fixed lengths in a picklist, you must drag the end of the ruler to the desired length. The right thing to do here is to show a first-run popup when kruler is run explaining the change, at least for the next few releases so that users who are used to the old approach aren't confused. If having a first-run info popup isn't supported in KDE, then I need to file a separate enhancement request.
Native moving is now the only option available and this is also supporting wayland now
