On the homepage (https://kmymoney.org), the version 4.8.4 is proposed for Windows PCs; in release notes, the version 5.0.6 can be retrieved. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open https://kmymoney.org in a browser -> top right, version 4.8.4 is offered for Windows PCs (https://download.kde.org/stable/kmymoney/4.8.4/win64/) 2. Click on the link to 5.0.6 (last versions are listed in the middle of the homepage) to open the page https://kmymoney.org/news.php#itemKMyMoney506released 3. In the page for 5.0.6, you can find the sentence "Binary packages for 32 and 64 bit Windows are available from the KDE download mirror network." which links to https://download.kde.org/stable/kmymoney/5.0.6/win64/ OBSERVED RESULT Windows Users get an older version EXPECTED RESULT Windows Users shall get the newest available version (here, different major version leads to 'frustation' (Windows as 2nd class citizen client)) On FTPs servers (e.g. to download Debian) there is a link 'latest' (pointing to the latest available version). I don't know the logic behind it, but it would definitely solve the problem :-) SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS n/a ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Used Firefox in private version so no problem of browser cache here.
Well, it points to the latest available Windows version. But seriously, you are right: the windows version of KMyMoney is always behind. Apparently, noone got the time to work on it. FYI: this project is developed on/for Linux operating systems and supporting other OSes is a spin-off. If someone knows of a maintainer for that we are open to hear from them. <quote> Windows Users shall get the newest available version (here, different major version leads to 'frustation' (Windows as 2nd class citizen client)) </quote> Hmm, this is what usually happens to Linux users. Oh and btw, I would not call it a 'different major version' when we talk about a maintenance release from 5.0.6 to 5.0.7 :)
Thanks Thomas for your comment, but apparently I was not clear: - Latest available version for Windows is 5.0.6 - Why does the Website Homepage points to version 4.8.4 ? According to semantic versioning, there is a major version change between 4.8.4 and 5.0.6. For reference, this thread provide info regarding how KDE applications are ported to other platforms than Linux: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=151541&sid=5b1c957a9ffdac1ce20e10e76daaa4ea
Sorry, I was looking at the "Windows MinGW 32/64bit (cross compiled)" which points to 5.0.6. You are right: from 4.8 to 5.0 is a major step. Information is available and people have provided builds for Windows in the past. This happened on a rather irregular basis, though. Building the project is not just a press of a button but a more complex operation. So we need resources/people who can do and maintain that. Do you know anyone? So your desire for a Windows installer version is more of a wish than a bug :) and believe me, I do understand your frustration.
Thomas, I think we are discussing about two things completly different :-) I don't wish anything else than the homepage of kmymoney.org pointing the latest available Windows version :-) If the version exists, why it is not advertised on the website? Regarding building the windows version of the project, I write you directly, this bug report is not the right place. Oh sorry, my bad. I updated the keyword to reflect that.
