Description akendo 2019-10-12 09:57:54 UTC
SUMMARY

KDE becomes unresponsive after connecting a keyboard with a US internal layout.
This unresponsive last for several minutes and freeze the whole desktop.

In general it takes around 5 upto 15 minutes until KDE continues to operate as usually. During this period, the CPU load jumps to 2 and at least one core is at 100%

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to Keyboard System Settings
2. Add an additional layout EurKEY and remove the default US layout
3. Connect a USB devices, preferable a keyboard to the computer

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Suspend the laptop
2. Wake up the laptop
3. Re-connect the keyboard to the device

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Connect a Bluetooth keyboard (Surface Keyboard)
2. Let the keyboard become inactive
3. Press any button on the keyboard

OBSERVED RESULT

Once the new USB devices is detected the whole desktop becomes unresponsive and partly frozen.

EXPECTED RESULT
The computer should operate without any delay

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Linux/KDE Plasma: Archlinux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.16.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.62.0
Qt Version: 5.13.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I've been hit by this bug since KDE4 presumably on an older laptop of mine. I always expected that the bug was related to a shitty EC controller, however, I've got a freshly Lenovo t480. I've configure the keyboard layout to be us international and the same behaviour is appearing.
Comment 1 akendo 2019-12-23 22:53:36 UTC
I've updated to the latest version of KDE. The problem persist. However, on another laptop a similar defect exists. On the affected system the issue can be observe when the system returns out of memory (suspend-to-memory).

Current tested system:

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.64.0
Qt Version: 5.13.2
Kernel Version: 5.4.2-arch1-1
OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz
Memory: 15,4 GiB of RAM

the other system is:

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.65.0
Qt Version: 5.13.2
Kernel Version: 4.19.91-1-lts
OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-2820QM CPU @ 2.30GHz
Memory: 15.6 GiB of RAM

I might should add that the systems have modified key-bindings that might related / cause the issue.

I have met the same bug i think.
KDE becomes unresponsive after connecting a USB-mouse.

Qt Version: 5.14.0-1
Kernel Version: 5.4.13-arch1-1
OS Type: 64-bit

Memory: 15.6 GiB of RAM
Laptop model: thinkpad x1carbon 2017 gen 5th

KDE becomes unresponsive after connecting a usb-mouse.
This unresponsive last for several minutes and freeze the whole desktop.

In general it takes around 5 upto 15 minutes until KDE continues to operate as usually. During this period, the CPU load jumps to 4 and at least one core is at 100%.

By the way,i had changed the key binding,Ctrl to CapsLock, using .Xmodmap file.

Sometimes,the keybinding is becoming invalid,when i insert usb-mouse.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Log in KDE desktop
2. Insert a USB-mouse.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The log info is from i disconnet the usb-mouse then i reconnect it,until KDE becomes responsive.
