I own a Surface Go Tablet with a detachable keyboard running KDE Neon dev edition with all updates installed. Currently the tablet does not automatically adapt to the screen orientation like i t does in Windows. First I believe the screen configuration should contain an "orientation: auto" when a tablet with orientation sensors is detected. Furthermore if such a configuration is detected auto should be selected Finally (I am not sure this really belongs in here), the plasma system toolbar should have an icon to quickly turn on/off the auto rotation mode (similar to android)
Auto-rotation (which is being worked on!) is tracked with Bug 384066. A Plasma panel item is in the works too, or maybe it already exists, I can't remember. Let's use this to expose the "auto" GUI option in the KScreen KCM.
Are you on Wayland or X11?
Wayland
I agree on the automated rotation option in KScreen. See also task here: https://phabricator.kde.org/T11475 For that I self-assign the task. The "plasma system toolbar" icon would make sense as well but somebody else would need to tackle it. You can create a separate wishlist bug for that after the backend change has landed and in case no Plasmoid is available until then.
The option is now there on Wayland! \o/
