Description Sammy 2019-10-07 20:19:53 UTC
SUMMARY
I have my windows arranged on six virtual desktops. However if I open a file in Libreoffice all libreoffice windows go to the current virtual desktop.
This can be very annoying.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. distribute some libreoffice windows on different virtual desktops
2. open a file from the libreoffice open dialog

OBSERVED RESULT
3. the distributed windows of libreoffice are now all on the current workspace

EXPECTED RESULT
the distributed windows stay on the virtual desktop as before and a new libreoffice window opens with the selected file.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Debian Stable (buster)
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.14.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.54.0
Qt Version: 5.11.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I'm actually not sure if this belongs here, because it could also be an libreoffice problem, but it seems connected to kde.

I get this as well with Plasma 5.17 on Arch Linux

If you uninstall the kde integration of LO everything seems to work as expected.

Yes, it might be that LO just sends a _NET_WM_DESKTOP client message, in which case that's a not bug from KWin's perspective.

Let me check that.

Aha, LibreOffice creates file dialogs, which are also group modal dialogs.
Comment 5 Sammy 2019-10-24 07:07:48 UTC
Actually I don't understand what that means actually.
Is it a problem of LO and should I report it there?

KWin is deliberately doing that. I need some time to think about how to fix this issue. We still want a modal dialog and all its main clients to be on the same virtual desktop.
Comment 7 Sammy 2019-11-18 20:06:44 UTC
I'm sorry to bother again.
Are there any news on this?
Thank you very much.

I have just seen this issue on X11 session of my system. Al least Wayland session is not affected.

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.90
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.66.0
Qt Version: 5.14.1
Comment 9 Sammy 2020-01-29 15:49:46 UTC
You can workaround this bug by selecting the Libreiffice Open/Save Dialogs under Extras > Options > Libreoffice > General.
Comment 10 brenbarn 2023-01-09 01:47:08 UTC
The same occurs with various other dialogs that LibreOffice may pop up. For instance, if you go to open a CSV file, LibreOffice pops up a little dialog to let you set the column separator and quote character and so on. When it opens this, all LibreOffice windows move to the current desktop.

This bug is very annoying. It's depressing to see that this is yet another case of clear usability bugs that go unfixed for years.

KDE Neon still suffers from this bug. Any plans to fix it?

Operating System: KDE neon 5.27
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.104.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Kernel Version: 5.19.0-1018-lowlatency (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

Also seen on OpenSuse Tumbleweed for a while, particularly annoying that it's most often when opening a downloaded file in my "Internet" desktop, whereupon the multitude of LO windows cover up all my web browser windows
