SUMMARY I am using digikam on a Mac with a mysql database on MariaDB on a Synology NAS. I am trying to fully install and reinstall digikam on my MacBook to allow me to change the router IP and some other settings. I tried to fully uninstall digikam by deleting all of the following: \opt\digikam\... \Username\Library\Application Support\digikam\ \Applications\digikam\ I emptied the trash and rebooted. The fresh installation does not show the first run dialog to set up digikam - rather it continues to look for the database in the previous location. It eventually generates an error message that it cannot connect to the database. If you leave it there it hangs. If you click ok, it generates the error message 'Failed to open the database. If you then click ok it shows the splash screen and hangs at 'Checking iCC repository...' I tried to upgrade digikam from 5.9 to 6.3. At the same time I have changed router which has a default different IP range. I will try and alter my router back to the IP range of the other router but I would still like to be able to fully uninstall digikam if possible. After a bad experience with Apple Photos and paying $$ for Adobe Lightroom I love digikam. Thanks for all the hard work everyone. Best Regards M
If you want to reset settings and show first run under MacOS, remove the file from your home directory: ~/Library/Preferences/digikamrc Gilles Caulier
Hello Gilles - thanks - this works well! Once you told me about this file I was able to edit it using TextEdit on the Macbook and alter the IP address of the router. Digikam started normally after this. I propose we alter the manual to include a section on complete uninstallation on a Mac. It should mention the folders and files that need to be deleted. The most logical section would be in chapter 1 immediately before the section 'Supported Image Formats'. If you support my idea, please let me know how to submit changes to the manual and I will write some text for everyone's comments.
Hi, Thanks for your proposal to patch documentation about uninstall procedure. Documentation is hosted in a dedicated gitlab repository : https://invent.kde.org/kde/digikam-doc You can checkout this repository and make a patch of text file (docbook format), to add a new 'uninstall' section. Docbook format is XML like syntax, with large section of text. It's not really complicated. create a new file named "intro-uninstall.docbook" and write content inside with a similar syntax than "intro-imageformats.docbook". https://invent.kde.org/kde/digikam-doc/blob/master/digikam/intro-imageformats.docbook Attach your file to this bugzilla entry. No need to compile the documentation, i will do it, embed this file in documentation stream. and fix syntax if necessary. Best Gilles Caulier

The next generation of digiKam documentation based on Sphinx/ReStructuredText framework has now a section Installation with the list of main digiKam settings files/folders: https://docs.digikam.org/en/getting_started/installation.html#configuration-information Gilles Caulier
