Description Sergey Y. Afonin 2002-04-18 16:14:43 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kmail
Version: 1.4 (using KDE 3.0.0 )
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: Red Hat Linux 7.2.92
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.2 2.96-109)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-pre9
OS/Compiler notes:

What do you think about create separate function for select messages in mailbox for recive/delete/ignore/mark as read ? The "POP filter" isn't comfortably in use I think.

For example you can see if function in "The Bat!" mailer (Win32):
http://www.ritlabs.com/the_bat/index.html
(see "Message dispatcher" function)

Thanks.
Sergey.

For this kind of functionality you should really use IMAP and not POP.

I change pop to imap. I have been kill KMail via Ctrl+Alt+Esc after about
5 minutes sorting IMAP folder :-(

Did you try this with the current version (3.0)? And if so how many e-mails
do you have in your folders?

I use IMAP in last of 1.5 year (I was needed to change imap software to cyrus-imap for separate mail storage from home directory for resolve problem discribed at 19 April 2002). This is have some negative and positive effects but I remain in opinion what this functionality need for pop.

1. In this implementation of KMail (I use 1.6.2 now) a copies of messages isn't exisit on clients workstations. A safety of messages completely depend from server's buckup.
2. А place on imap-server used for storing messages. A many ISP exact payment for additional space or use limit of space. IMAP good only for corporate mail servers or for servers with unlimited space.

because <1> and <2> I think what IMAP isn't usable for some cases...

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
