SUMMARY


STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have over 2000 desktop icons in total
2. Click Application Dashboard from taskbar to open it
3. 

OBSERVED RESULT

Taskbar freezes (unresponsive) until the dashboard has been loaded


EXPECTED RESULT

Dashboard should open straight away without freeze


SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Linux/KDE Plasma: 
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.16.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.62.0
Qt Version: 5.12.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Plasmashell has a very large memory footprint after loading (2.5GB in my case)
Plasma shell also becomes unresponsive when any new program adds a desktop file to the application dashboard until it has reloaded application dashbaord

You're saying number of desktop icons affects how quickly the dash loads?
