I think we should have an option to disable all desktop effects, and not just the compositor like was possible in KDE 4. This is a problem because it's not possible to just disable compositor in Wayland, resulting in slightly more input lag for games in Wayland sessions because of the unnecessary desktop effect rendering going on.
Can you quantify the framerate drop you're experiencing while desktop effects are active while playing games on Wayland, compared to when you have them all turned off?
If you disable the compositor, all desktop effects are disabled. There will be no input lag, because the application renders directly to the X11 server.
For Wayland, set the Animation speed to instant if you fear speed drops due to this.
Well what I'd like is the ability to change it on-demand automatically when compositing in Xorg would normally get disabled. I don't think there's a huge framerate difference, but it reduces input lag a ton for me in Xorg. I'll try switching them all off manually under Wayland when I get home and I'll see if it makes a difference under Wayland.
Currently in Wayland it's noticeably harder to play games like CSGO that need low input lag
